Day 1: Wall Pushups
Check out day 1 of Spartan30 pushups with Jason J!
Spartan Race presents the Spartan Push-Up challenge: Conquer 30 push-ups a day for 30 consecutive days.
No fancy gym memberships required. All you need is the ground beneath you and a dose of determination. Post your pictures and/or your times. Then do it again the next day.
Wait, sorry, what is Spartan Race and why are you holding this challenge?
Spartan Race is an obstacle course racing series that pushes you physically and mentally. With three distances – 3+ miles, 8+ miles and 12+ miles, Spartan Races challenge every level of athlete with barbed wire crawls, spear throws, rope climbs, and fire jumps. Reconnect with your inner kid while getting into the best shape of your life! Check for races near you here. Ok, shameless plug over.
So how do you complete a push-up? Follow these steps:
Step 1: Get into plank position, with your hands slightly outside of your shoulders.
Step 2: Lower your body until your chest nearly touches the floor, keeping your elbows close to your torso.
Step 3: Push away from the floor and back to the starting position. Repeat 29 more times!
Can I do more than 30 push-ups?
Yes! As the challenge progresses you may find the 30 become too easy. Feel free to push yourself further!
What if I can’t do one push-up?
If the standard push-up is too difficult you can start the challenge with the “modified push-up”. To perform a modified push-up assume a push-up position but bend your knees allowing them to touch the floor and cross your ankles. This will make the push-up easier and can be used as a stepping stone to the standard push-up!
What if my wrists hurt while performing a push-up?
Try using a pair of dumbbells or push-up bars. The modified grip will allow you to keep your wrists straight.
Do I need to time myself?
No. However by keeping track of your progress, you can watch yourself improving. And sharing your progress has been proven to help you stick with your exercise, so join our challenge page and show us how low you can go!
Can I challenge my friends?
Yes! Having a partner can help motivate you to stick with the challenge. Share our link with your family and friends! http://sprtn.im/Spartan30-PushUps
What do I win if I do this?
This is not a contest but a challenge. Proving to yourself that you can stick with your daily squats is award enough. That said, we maaaay hold a few contests here and there to keep you motivated!
